15 years ago I was working as a door-to-door salesman with strict daily targets – and if I didn’t hit them, I was out of a job.

In order to succeed, I felt pressured to convince or persuade prospects into buying things they didn’t need.

Rather than take that approach, I tapped into my natural curiosity and willingness to help others by asking questions and listening — so I could better understand them and their world.

Unsurprisingly, buyers would open up, and the process of selling became more of a natural transaction based on mutual trust and felt less like a wrestling match.

This customer-centric approach helped me throughout my career and landed me multiple awards as high performer in Belgium and later Europe.
